Fireworks experiment - not so much

So we found much to do yesterday, thanks to Michael.  He can't seem to stay in the house much, which I'm grateful for.  I will just sit in the cave here for hours because I don't want the hassle of getting two little people from place to place.  Not Michael.  He's ready to get out.  So yesterday we walked around downtown and had lunch at an All-American little shop, chili cheese onion dogs and potato chips.  Fabulous.  We saw this monument on the way and decided the square must somehow belong to us, surely. We made our way down to the river front where Elliot got to see the boats again.  He is completely consistent now in telling us that for his birthday he wants to "ride boat".   Here you see him in a big sandbox on the river front made for little people.
So the other story is, I love fireworks.  And I've missed being in a large crowd of excited, partially drunk people watching these things for 3 years now.  I decided this must end.  We put the kids down for bed last night, then woke them up around 9pm, stuck them in the car, parked in our secret parking lot (our church parking lot where Michael has permission to park) and walked the stroller as far down to the river as the crowds allowed.  It was exciting and there was music and smells and lights.  And then the fireworks started.  Buggie caught on quickly - she saw the first flash and locked on.  She loved them.  Elliot, however, whether he was being held or in the stroller told us over and over - 'I no want see pirework.'  Ah, Elliot.  And so, 5 minutes into the show, we turned around and walked back up the hill to the church parking lot.  I watched the finale as Michael put the stroller back in the car.  Elliot reminded us all the way to the car and home, 'I no want see pirework.'
Maybe next year.  I think it may become a Gordon family rule that you like fireworks.  Or at least tolerate them.  'Cause mama likes them.

We saw a beautiful display from our back deck! The entire sky lit up with flashes of color and shrill whistling sounds. Our neighbor across the lake put on quite a show. War is on as Big Papa has taken on the challenge to put on an even better and bigger (of course) show next year. Mark your calendars. I don't think you will be able to see it from Savannah (you never know!) so Y'all come!
Love YaYa & Big Papa

the crazy thing about living where we do is that it doesn't get dark until 10:30 or 10:45 - so fireworks don't go off until almost 11:00 - too late for me! we haven't seen fireworks now for 4 years... sigh.
