SPANK
This is what we do a lot of lately. That's all. We spank. We prepare, we explain, we ask questions of understanding, we forgive, we instruct. But it feels like WE SPANK.
To my anonymous reader: I understand you being hesitant to spank. It does seem kind of cruel at first glance. But it is an effective and very helpful way to discipline if done correctly - like, with love, not out of anger, with explanation, etc. It's not always easy to do it correctly. But I'd rather discipline now and spare them consequences of worse disobedience later.
Hey Chris, I believe in careful loving spanking too and I know that it is often overwhelming and distressing when your kids keep butting heads with you. But, you are right, the consequences of not spanking are dire. I tell J., when we are doing remedial parenting with adults anywhere from 20 years old to 50 years old, "That person was never spanked and I can tell it a mile away. There is a lot of confusion and rebellion in their hearts because of lack of discipline." Let me encourage you; it's worth the patient effort. Take a deep breath... K
I love that child and I understand and agree with your methods. It is not cruel. Cruelty is passing up the hard parts of parenting. The rest of us will eventually reap the benefits as will the child. Thank you.

hey, christine lynn:
it was brave of you to tell the cyber-world you spank. that's one hell of a can of worms you're inviting to be opened! ;)
i know and love you (and your husband and children) and agree that there is a right way and a right reason to spank a kid.
i trust that you're doing just fine.
So it sounds like you might have a 3 year old in the house...
